Food was really nice. I’d give the chicken Choi Mein a 7/10- it did come a bit cold and the chicken was a bit too salty for me but I really did enjoy it. The pork mini dumpling buns were 10/10. The broth inside was so nice I had seconds so soft and hot. The sizzling beef my friend had and it was a solid 9/10, it was hot and fresh and tasty. The lady behind the bar was so lovely we tipped her and the gentlemen who served us were also really nice. They kept refilling the vinegar soy sauce and chilli oil that was on the table. Overall a solid 8.5/10 experience!
Pepper Chef is a delightful little gem in the city centre! This cheerful Chinese restaurant offers great value for money, and the sizzle plates are their specialty. The braised beef is absolutely wonderful—so hot and flavourful that it’s hard to resist! It comes with soup and curry sauce too. I’m also a huge fan of the Chinese hamburger; it’s definitely one of my favourite dishes. The staff here are incredibly nice and make the dining experience even more enjoyable. Just a tip: it's best to pay in cash for a smoother transaction. Highly recommend checking this place out!
If you want cheap and cheerful authentic Chinese food with no frills then go here. Near the Hippodrome. I would recommend ordering Jasmine tea with your meal. We had the King prawn fried rice which was delicious.
Great restaurant! I dined in, so I haven't tried the takeaway, but the Korean style squid tentacles were amazing, and one of the best meals I had that year. The price is great value for what you get, and I was there with my friends who all loved the restaurant too. Very good place.
One of the best dine-in Chinese places, if a tad more pricey than a takeaway or all-you-can-eat. Great quality and massive portions with an extensive menu (with pictures on the menu which is fab). This place is the best for sharing dishes as they provide small side plates. Note that this place is cash only but there is a cash point opposite the gay village under 1 minute walk down the road (can't miss it). Adjacent to the Dragon Inn wetherspoons, which is a great little combo in China town near the Hippodrome. Service is good and usually quick. Great for any meat and prawns, noodles or rice dishes - for a classic british chinese experience as well as some more authentic traditional options like skewers and hot pots/ tentacles, etc.
Love coming back to Pepper Chef. We had spicy lotus root, prawn toasts, cumin lamb and beef skewers this time. Chef kiss. Service is always efficient and you never have to wait long for the food to arrive.
Always a delight coming to Pepper Chef. The renovation of kitchen looks good. Food is as always good and friendly staff. Menu seems to be a bit more organised which is much better and clear. Good portions, clean environment and excellent service. I recommend it if you like fuss free Hong Kong style food.
Wasn't expecting much as it looks more like a cafe than a restaurant but omg it was lovely. Had Jasmine tea with my meal (as suggested by another reviewer) and the soup was really good and fresh (served in a flowerpot thing was odd but kept it really hot), the squid was interesting, would do that again and the chow mein was lovely. Some REALLY interesting other things on the menu I've not seen before but they will have to wait till next time!
